Weekend Like a Local - Philadelphia
The day started early.…Like 4 am early. I was so excited to visit a city I have never been to before with the convenience of the Weekend Like A Local Package from Hilton! Having spent the first 5 years of my life living in Pennsylvania I never actually had the opportunity to see much more than my small town of Altoona. The time has come and I was catching a flight to Philadelphia!
My plane hit the tarmac and my mind started to flood with visuals of historic sites such as the liberty bell along movies and songs that originated from this city. Piering out the car window from the airport I caught glimpses of the old charm and modern updates this city seamlessly combined. We were nearing the hotel and the streets became more crowded.
Something had to be going on! A few engines roars later I soon found out it was the Car Show held at the Philadelphia convention center and it seemed like everyone had come into town for it! A moment later we arrived at the Hampton Inn Philadelphia Center City that neighbors the convention center. I could already tell the hotel location was in the hot spot!
Newly renovated in April 2018 and located across the street from the Pennsylvania Convention Center The Hampton Inn downtown location is within walking distance to the city’s best restaurants, shopping and attractions. Your stay offers a complimentary hot breakfast buffet and free Wifi which is always a plus!
Bags are dropped, and it’s time for brunch to fuel up for a day of exploring the city! Hilton has partnered up with an amazing brunch spot, Positano Coast by Aldo Lamberti. Despite the beautiful views of old city that surround the restaurant's location you literally feel as thought you step into italy as you are seated. Offering 10% off food items on sundays (because sundays are for brunch!) you can choose from an extensive menu filled with delicious italian inspired dishes. I personally suggest pairing with their bottomless mimosas!
I couldn’t wait to explore the view I had from my brunch table of Old City. Being a self proclaimed history and art geek, I knew I would fall in love with the historical sites and museums. I insisted on walking down every cobblestone street as we made our way back to the hotel. Stopping to see the museum of the American Revolution, 18th century garden, Carpenters Historic Hall and so much more.
Next on the afternoon agenda was a visit to the Fabulous Fashion Exhibition at the renowned Philadelphia Museum of Art. This latest exhibition celebrates some of the most creative feminine fashion designs from the liking of Oscar De La Renta, Pierre Cardin and Dior.
Many of you may remember its 72 stone steps recognized from the Movie Rocky. I couldn't capture in one photo just how big this museum was. However, it’s what’s on the inside that counts right?
Upon walking into the Fabulous Fashion Exhibit I caught myself daydreaming of a time and place I would be wearing these insanely beautiful pieces. With that said, I was also “window shopping” my favorite looks. Back to reality and I was intrigued to see more of the Philadelphia Museum of art. If it’s not fashion design, it’s interior design that I am influenced by. I loved walking into staged rooms of furniture replicating an era of time. I favored the French design. Each room lead to more rooms. I wanted to spend the entire day exploring and stepping back in time. What an incredible collection the Philadelphia Museum of Art holds. With the weekend like a local package you will receive $5 off admission on Sundays!
Ok... I might be in a different city and technically out of New England, but its Super Bowl time! I pride myself as a New England Sports fan. Tonight's the night to tune in, shout, eat game day food and have a drink or two! The Hilton Hotel’s Weekend Like a Local package Philly addition has partnered with City Tap in Logan Square offering one free “Veg & Spread” appetizer or any dessert. This was the perfect location to watch a game with televisions screens literally in every corner and endless amount of beer on tap and sports bar vibe. I was happy to see others sporting Patriots jerseys in the house so I snuggled in a corner booth and let the Pat’s do what they do best! We win!
After the game, we were expectedly exhausted and decided on turning in for an early night. When you wake at the Hampton Inn Philadelphia, you are greeted with a complimentary breakfast buffet!
With self serve service this is perfect for those on the go or those who like to take their time. Overall my experience was the perfect start to seeing Philadelphia for all it has to offer. Below I am providing a link to the Weekend Like a Local package that includes all other discount offers and attractions. I highly suggest if you have plans to visit or have always had the desire to do it the way locals do with Hilton!
Until the next destination,
